PhD candidates and international (guest)employees of Leiden University may contact the Service Centre International Staff (SCIS) for housing.

Long Stay apartments in Leiden (duration: minimum of 1 month), owned by Stichting Universitaire Woonwijk Boerhaave
1. Anatomy Building (Leiden):
The apartments in the Anatomy Building are unfurnished. There is floor covering and curtains. The kitchen has a cooking plate and a refrigerator.

2. Boerhaavelaan/Haarlemmerstraat/Van Swietenstraat/Marienpoelstraat (Leiden):
Most of the apartments are renovated and furbished. More information about the apartments you can contact SCIS.

What do I need to do to find housing?

The allocation process is done via SCIS. If you have any questions, please contact SCIS on their website.

First payment

Long Stay contract:

You must make the first payment before signing the tenancy agreement. This payment consists of the rent for the first month (or the first month-and-a-half), deposit and the reservation/handling fee. You pay this first invoice in portal.suwb.nl. This is possible from a foreign bank account.

SHWJ/SUWB must receive this first payment no later than 2 weeks after your documents have been approved.

Contract

Boerhaavelaan/Haarlemmerstraat/Van Swietenstraat/Mariënpoelstraat/Anatomy building:

You sign a tenancy agreement with SHWJ/SUWB with an end date if you rent an apartment at Mariënpoelstraat. This is due to demolition and renovation work. At Haarlemmerstraat/Boerhaavelaan/Van Swietenstraat/Anatomy building you will sign a tenancy agreement with or without an end date. You can stay in the apartment for as long as you have a contract with Leiden University, with a maximum period of two or five years depending on your position.

You have one month notice to terminate your tenancy agreement.
